Hello United South Central Families,
With the Thanksgiving holiday falling later this year, December ends up being a short, three-week month here at USC. Even though there are only 15 school days between the Thanksgiving and winter breaks, there is certainly a lot going on at United South Central and December looks to be an exciting month for our students and school.
2025-2026 Academic Calendar Survey - As we start planning for the 2025-2026 school year, it’s important to begin shaping the academic calendar early on to set up the coming year for success. Our district has a Calendar Committee made up of staff, students, parents, and administrators who work together to create a calendar that works best for everyone. We’re focused on finding the right balance between instructional time, breaks, and professional development to create the best possible learning environment for our students. Your input is very important to us as we consider key elements for next year’s calendar. Please consider sharing your thoughts and ideas as we work together to design a school year that sets all our students up for success.
Winter Weather & Virtual Learning - We’ve been fortunate to enjoy a smooth start to the winter season so far. As we move into the month of December, we ask for your help in preparing your student(s) for the possibility of Virtual Learning Days. While we may have a "regular snow day" early on, we will transition to Virtual Learning Days if necessary to accommodate weather-related closures as necessary. We’ll make sure to provide as much notice as possible if a Virtual Learning Day is called, so students can prepare in advance. Please take some time to consider what your student(s) might need to be successful in learning from home.
Strategic Planning Process - If you haven't already, we encourage you to take a few minutes to complete the Mission, Vision, and Values Survey as part of our ongoing Strategic Planning process. Over the past eight months, our district has been developing a long-term strategic plan based on input from staff, students, and the community. Now, our school board and leadership team are reviewing options for revised mission, vision, and value statements that will guide our work. Your feedback is important to ensure these statements truly reflect the values of the USC community.
